In fact, in order to overcome the high internal resistance of lead-acid batteries, lead-acid battery chargers increase the charging voltage by about 5% during constant current charging. This means that if you choose the same voltage charger to supply power to lithium batteries, the voltage will be slightly higher because lead-acid batteries have a high internal resistance. Constant current charging, in order to achieve efficiency, increases the constant voltage during constant current charging, which is very unfavorable for lithium batteries.
The main reason is that there are two voltage points during the charging process of lead-acid batteries, hydrogen and oxygen evolution. The oxygen evolution voltage point is 13.8V, and the hydrogen evolution voltage point is 14.7V. Therefore, the high and constant voltage of the lead-acid charger is set at 14.7V * block number; The low constant voltage (float charging voltage) is set at 13.8V * block number.
If the protection voltage point of the lithium battery protection board is 4.2V, then you can use it with confidence, just don't charge it with a constant voltage. However, the starting voltage of a regular protection board is 4.25V, with an error of+/-0.035V, isn't it very safe? 18650 may not be a big deal, it's hard to say for the aluminum shell single unit. Many lithium batteries use normal and ordinary protection boards, with a cut-off protection voltage of 4.25V. Therefore, this protection may not be effective in critical situations.
Lithium batteries have a low internal resistance, for example, a 13 string lithium battery is only 48 volts, and the cut-off voltage needs to be controlled at 54.6 volts, while lead-acid batteries have a constant current cut-off voltage of 57.9 volts, which is several volts higher.
Of course, if lead-acid batteries are improved, they can be used to charge lithium batteries, such as removing the low constant voltage stage circuit and pulse circuit. If you observe the charging curve of lithium batteries, you can find that about 96% of the total capacity is charged during the constant current stage; During the constant voltage and current reduction stage, only 4% of the capacity is charged. If the light is turned on and unplugged, the lithium battery has already been charged to 99.5% of its capacity. So when lead-acid chargers are used to charge lithium batteries, they only lose the 0.5% power required for balancing and float charging. By keeping the high and low constant voltage of lead charging low, lithium batteries can be charged, but it's just not enough. However, lithium batteries do not sulfurize. If they are not fully charged, they will not affect their use and their lifespan will be extended.
Another method is to open the casing and increase the resistance of the resistor connected in series with the C-pole of the transistor by 10 times. The constant current only increases the voltage by 0.5%, and then adjust the constant voltage point to achieve a balanced voltage of around 4.18V for each battery as much as possible.
