IEC/EN 62620-2014 stipulates the identification, testing, and requirements for secondary lithium batteries and battery packs used in industrial applications (including fixed applications). When the IEC standard prescribes the testing conditions and requirements for batteries used in special applications and conflicts with this document, the former takes precedence (for example, the IEC 62660 series for road vehicles).


The following are some application examples of battery cells and battery packs within the scope of this document:


  1. Fixed Applications: Telecommunications, Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), Electrical Energy Storage Systems, Utility Switches, Emergency Power Supplies, and similar applications.

  2. Power Applications: Forklifts, Golf Carts, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV), Railways, and Ships, excluding road vehicles.


Since this document covers batteries for various industrial applications, it includes both common and minimum requirements for various applications.


This document is applicable to battery cells and battery packs. If the battery is divided into smaller units, each small unit shall be tested. The manufacturer shall clearly state the test units. The manufacturer can add functions and present them in the finally tested batteries.
