Scope of Application of IEC 62620:

Fixed Applications: Telecommunications, Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), Electrical Energy Storage Systems, Utility Switching, Emergency Power Supplies, and similar applications.

Power Applications: Forklifts, Golf Carts, AGV (Automated Guided Vehicles), Railways, and Maritime Transport, excluding Road Vehicles.

AGV: Usually also known as AGV trolleys. They refer to transport vehicles equipped with automatic navigation devices such as electromagnetic or optical ones, capable of traveling along the prescribed navigation paths, having safety protection and various transfer functions. They are handling vehicles that do not require drivers in industrial applications and are powered by rechargeable storage batteries.

Since the standard covers batteries for various industrial applications, it includes the common and minimum requirements in various applications.

The standard is applicable to battery cells and batteries. If the battery is divided into smaller units, the smaller units can be tested as representatives of the battery. If the manufacturer clearly states the test units, the functions in the final battery can be added to the tested device.

Definitions of Test Objects:

Cell - A single battery cell that cannot be directly used in a product.

Cell Block - A group of battery cells connected in parallel. It cannot be directly used in a product.

Module - A module composed of battery cells or cell blocks connected in series and parallel, with or without protection devices.

Battery Pack - A battery pack composed of one or more battery cells or cell blocks.

Battery System - A battery system including one or more battery cells, modules, or battery packs, equipped with a Battery Management System (BMS).

BMS - Battery Management System.

IEC Nomenclature:

Battery cells should be specified in the following form: A1A2A3/N2/N3/N4/A4/TLTH/NC

Batteries should be specified in the following form: A1A2A3/N2/N3/N4/[S1]A4/TLTH/NC

A1 represents the negative electrode; A2 represents the positive electrode; A3 represents the shape: circular and diamond; A4 represents the rate capacity; TL represents the low-temperature rating;
TH represents the high-temperature rating; for designs only for cycling applications, write NA;
NC represents the percentage obtained by the ratio of the capacity after 500 cycles to the rated capacity. For designs only for standby applications, write NA;
S1: Series-parallel structure.
