Charging a lithium iron phosphate battery to 100% is better than charging it to 90%, and the battery should be fully charged at least once a week. There are some differences between it and ternary lithium batteries. For ternary lithium batteries, it is sufficient to charge them to 90% each time because this is the optimal value set by the manufacturer.

As for why it is recommended to fully charge lithium iron phosphate batteries, we have to mention their battery packs. When lithium iron phosphate batteries are being charged, especially during fast charging, the BMS system that distributes the electric quantity among various battery packs may not work in a timely manner.

Consequently, the electric quantity distributed to each battery pack will be different, which will lead to an imbalance among the batteries. The already fully charged battery packs will give the whole battery pack a false impression that the battery is fully charged when it actually isn't.

However, the slow charging time in the later stage of the battery charging process gives the system enough time to restore the balance of the batteries. Therefore, for lithium iron phosphate batteries, it is best to fully charge them each time.

It should be noted that there is a difference between "fully charging and fully discharging" and "overcharging and overdischarging". Firstly, it is indeed recommended to "fully charge and fully discharge" lithium iron phosphate batteries, but this is in contrast to the "shallow charging and shallow discharging" of ternary lithium batteries.

In other words, lithium iron phosphate batteries can be charged when the vehicle indicates that the battery power is too low. If the battery power is indicated to be too low but charging is still not carried out until the battery is completely out of power, that is overdischarging, which will cause damage to the battery.
