Lithium batteries can be roughly divided into two categories: lithium metal batteries and lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-ion batteries do not contain lithium in the metallic state and are rechargeable. The fifth-generation product of rechargeable batteries, lithium metal batteries, was born in 1996. Half-Cells
In half-cells, both the positive and negative electrode materials in a full cell are regarded as positive electrodes because their potentials relative to lithium are all positive.
A lithium metal battery is a chemical battery that uses lithium as the active material for the negative electrode.
Ternary polymer lithium batteries (Do they belong to half-cells or full-cells?) refer to lithium batteries whose positive electrode materials use ternary positive electrode materials such as lithium nickel cobalt manganese oxide (Li(NiCoMn)O₂) or lithium nickel cobalt aluminum oxide.
NMC-Li is a full cell.
Cu-Li is a half cell.
Strictly speaking, a battery composed of electrodes and lithium foils can also be regarded as a full cell, which is usually made in the form of a simulated battery or a button cell. However, when using this type of battery, it is usually to examine the performance of the electrode you have made yourself, with the lithium foil being considered as a constant (that is, it serves both as the counter electrode and the reference electrode) to obtain the basic performance of the electrode under examination. Therefore, it is customary to refer to this as a half cell, which is actually not scientific. In lithium-ion batteries, the full cells generally refer to batteries assembled by using conventional or unconventional materials such as LCO/NMC/LMO/LFP as the positive electrode and graphite/carbon/silicon-carbon/silicon and other materials as the negative electrode. In the industry, they are usually called finished batteries or finished battery cells.
