What is the purpose of the lithium-ion battery pack balance maintenance device?

1. Overcharging maintenance purpose: Overcharging maintenance purpose refers to strictly prohibiting recharging by the charger when a certain working voltage is reached. The MOS transistor that is about to manipulate overcharging enters a closed state and terminates charging.

2. Usage of power loss maintenance: The purpose of overcharge and discharge maintenance is to terminate the charging and discharging of the load when the working voltage of the battery decreases. Put the MOS transistor that controls the power loss into a closed state and strictly prohibit its charging and discharging.

3. A lithium-ion battery pack is composed of multiple identical battery cells connected in series and parallel. The most important thing in the process is that the battery cells are the same, but each cell cannot be completely identical, such as internal resistance deviation, capacity deviation, voltage deviation, charging and discharging curve, etc. Therefore, there may be deviations during charging or discharging, which may cause the battery protection board to protect in advance, and thus the energy of each cell cannot be effectively utilized. So we need to add a balance board in the battery pack.

4. The maintenance purpose of lithium-ion batteries is generally carried out through the cooperation of maintenance circuit boards and PTC and other current components. The lithium-ion battery protection board is composed of electronic circuits, which accurately monitors the working voltage of the lithium-ion battery cells and the current of the charge and discharge control circuit in a natural environment of -40 ℃ to 85 ℃, and immediately controls the conduction of the current control circuit; PTC warns against extreme damage to batteries in high-temperature natural environments.

① If balancing is performed during discharge and a shorter balancing time is desired, an external power transistor with lower on resistance is required, which is very common.

② Balancing the lithium-ion battery pack during discharge will consume unused power, while balancing the battery during regulation will not affect the system's operating time. However, if the system is in operation while discharging, many problems will arise during battery balancing

③ Balancing during charging also requires an external power transistor with low on resistance to achieve battery balancing, which will result in the same limitations as balancing during current discharging periods. However, balancing during charging is usually done to correct short circuits in the future, so the required balancing current is relatively small.
