StoreDot is equipped with dedicated battery packs and charging stations for this technology, and claims to be able to replenish electric vehicles with a range of 480 kilometers in just 5 minutes, which is similar to the time it takes for a traditional car to fill a tank of gas.

For this purpose, StoreDot has employed numerous innovative designs and developed a new technology - Multi Functional Electrode (MFE). MFE uses conductive polymers and metal oxides as battery materials. The former allows the battery to receive rapid charging, while the latter is used to slowly flow rapidly polymerized lithium ions into the electrode. Through two processes, one fast and one slow, it ensures fast charging while preventing electrode breakdown or shortened lifespan.

StoreDot CEO Doron Myersdorf stated that dedicated fast charging batteries have very low internal resistance and minimal heat generated during the charging process. Their lifespan is about three times that of regular lithium-ion batteries.

In terms of cost, fast charging batteries are 20% to 30% more expensive than regular lithium-ion batteries, but considering their longer lifespan, the average price should be cheaper than lithium-ion batteries. StoreDot expects to launch a prototype of its supercharging system in 2016 and strive to achieve commercialization in 2017.
