What is the charging cycle? A charging cycle refers to the complete charging and discharging process of a lithium-ion battery, which means that when the battery reaches 100% of its capacity, a charging cycle is completed, but it may not necessarily be completed through a single charge. This is a cognitive misconception for many people.

The lifespan of lithium-ion batteries is 500 charging cycles. How can it be considered as a charging and discharging cycle? A charging cycle means the process of all the charge of a lithium-ion battery going from full to empty, and then from empty to full, which is not equivalent to charging once. The so-called 500 cycles refer to lithium-ion battery manufacturers achieving about 625 rechargeable cycles at a constant discharge depth (80%), reaching 500 charging cycles. The number of charge and discharge cycles for imported ternary lithium-ion batteries can reach about 3000, while for domestically produced batteries, it is approximately 800-1000 cycles.

The normal charging and discharging frequency of lithium-ion batteries can reach up to 2000 times, and there are differences in the types of lithium-ion batteries, including ternary lithium-ion batteries, iron lithium-ion batteries, and polymer lithium-ion batteries. Normally, lead-acid batteries can be charged and discharged up to 500 times, such as flat liquid batteries, rich liquid batteries, colloidal batteries, etc.

At present, the three important types of power lithium-ion batteries used in new energy vehicles are ternary lithium-ion batteries, cobalt oxide lithium-ion batteries, and iron phosphate lithium-ion batteries. Regardless of the type of battery, there is a service life. The service life of power lithium-ion batteries is measured by the number of cycles used, and the more times they are charged and discharged, the shorter the service life of the battery. The national mandatory requirement for the number of cycles of power lithium battery cells is to be at least 1000 times. Lithium iron phosphate can generally achieve 2000 times, while ternary lithium-ion batteries can generally achieve 1000 times or more.

Different batteries have different cycle life. The cyclic service life of ternary lithium power batteries is usually around 1500 to 2000 times. So a simple number of charges will not affect the battery's lifespan. The lifespan of power lithium batteries will only be reduced based on the number of cycles. The number of charges cannot directly determine the service life of power lithium-ion batteries, and multiple charges in a single charge discharge cycle can only be considered as a cycle of battery loss. So when using electric vehicles, don't worry about the number of charges affecting the service life of the power lithium-ion battery.
