On October 4, it was reported that the Renault Nissan Alliance and Daimler said that the two companies might expand their cooperation to battery and automatic driving technologies and mobile travel services.

Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault Nissan Alliance, said: "In the fields of interconnection, autonomous vehicle and intelligent networking services, the automotive industry is undergoing transformation, and the two sides can cooperate in many fields."

Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler, said that as the automotive industry seeks better battery chemicals for electric vehicles, the two companies seek to conduct battery research through different ways and concentrate research results, which may be an advantage.

Ghosn said that the automotive industry is witnessing a period of strong growth in demand for electric vehicles. "The higher the oil price, the greater the support for electric vehicles". He added that the shortage of batteries and electric devices meant that the automotive industry could not meet the demand for zero emission vehicles regardless of the short-term oil price trend.

The comprehensive cooperation between Renault Nissan and Daimler began in April 2010. The cooperation projects of the two sides include the first Pick Up model of Mercedes Benz, the pure electric version of Smartfortwo, Smartcabrio and Smartforfour, and the trial production of the next generation of small car products on the joint production line of Aguascalientes in Mexico.
