3. Plate grid corrosion

The corrosion of the electrode plate grid refers to the corrosion of the positive electrode plate grid frame. The electrode plate is in a corrosive state, and active substances are piled up in blocks between the partitions. The phenomenon of this fault is manifested as a decrease in the output capacity of the battery.

The following situations can cause corrosion of the plate grid:

(1) The battery is often overcharged, and the oxygen present at the positive electrode plate oxidizes the grid.

(2) If the density and temperature of the electrolyte are too high and the charging time is too long, it will accelerate the corrosion of the electrode plate.

(3) The electrolyte is impure.

The troubleshooting method for batteries with corroded plate grids is as follows: for batteries with lighter corrosion, if there are impurities in the electrolyte, the electrolyte should be poured out and repeatedly cleaned with distilled water. Then, new electrolyte should be added and charged before use; For batteries with severe corrosion, if the electrolyte density is too high, it can be adjusted to the specified value and used continuously without charging; For batteries with severe corrosion, such as broken ribs, broken frames, or shedding of active substances, the plates should be replaced.
