The charging control methods of lead-acid batteries and lithium-ion battery chargers are different, which can be explained in simple terms:
The charging control of lithium-ion batteries is to first charge according to a constant current, and then when the battery voltage rises to 4.2V, the voltage no longer rises. The charger detects the current, and if the current is less than a certain value, the charging ends. Lithium batteries are sensitive to overcharging, so the protection circuit is complex. The maximum charging rated voltage for a single nominal 3.6V battery is 4.2V, and the allowable error limit is not more than 1%.
The ideal charging current of lead-acid battery is pulse type, and the pulse charging is the best way to directly rectify and unfilter the pulsating DC charging with the 50-60HZ mains power supply we use (this is based on the practice when the circuit is simple and the cost is low). Because the self-discharge rate of lead-acid battery is relatively large, when using power frequency charging, we usually use the constant voltage charging mode (which will certainly limit the current).
In addition, when the battery is fully charged, the stopping voltage (current) of the charger is different. For example, the ending voltage for charging a 48V lead-acid battery is around 57.6V, while the ending voltage for charging a 48V lithium-ion battery is around 55V. So for the health and safety of the battery, it is necessary to choose a legitimate and qualified lithium-ion battery charger.
