Heterojunction is actually not a new thing, it has been developed for over 30 years since 1990. Among them, multiple cross-border companies such as Diamond Glass, Shanmei International, Tongwei Co., Ltd., Anhui Huasheng, Dongfang Risheng, and China National Building Materials have successively invested in building gigawatt level heterojunction projects and started expansion plans. At the same time, the "slipper king" Baofeng Fashion and wind power star company Mingyang Intelligent have also made significant efforts to layout a "heterojunction". In addition, Junshi, Maiwei, Huasheng, and Longji have also set a new world record for the efficiency of heterojunction mass production.
In 2018, Zhejiang Aikang Optoelectronics Phase I project invested 2GW of high-efficiency heterojunction batteries and components. Currently, approximately 570 million yuan has been invested, of which the 900MW component project has been put into operation; On August 5, 2021, the "Efficient Heterojunction Solar Photovoltaic Power Generation Project" of Ouhao Group officially began construction in Jiuquan; On March 28, 2021, Entropy Yi (Shanghai) Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu Nantong Rudong Economic Development Zone joined hands to officially sign and settle the high-efficiency heterojunction battery production project, with a total investment of 5 billion yuan, a total land area of about 400 acres, and a total construction area of over 300000 square meters. After all projects are put into operation, they will achieve annual sales of over 8 billion yuan and annual tax revenue of over 400 million yuan.
Heterojunction leads the new generation of solar cell technology
Efficient battery technology drives cost reduction and quality improvement, which is the key for the photovoltaic industry to enter the era of parity and also the fundamental way to resolve the current internal competition in the industry. The reason why "heterojunction" is highly valued is because it is a new generation of solar cell technology, and the production efficiency of the battery can stably exceed the bottleneck of PERC batteries by 24%. According to calculations, by 2025, the global photovoltaic market will increase by 350 gigawatts annually, with a market size exceeding 580 billion yuan.
Although PERC battery technology currently dominates, the space for conversion efficiency, efficiency improvement, and cost reduction is gradually running out, and there is no room for further breakthroughs. Heterojunctions are rapidly advancing in terms of production expansion and mass production efficiency, becoming the focus of close attention and the focus of forward-looking layout for the company.
Heterojunction batteries are a highly disruptive technology in the industry, with mass production growth blocks, high battery conversion efficiency, and great potential for expansion, which will lead the technological transformation of the photovoltaic industry. Under the historical wave of technological iteration, accelerating the running-in time of equipment and material verification time in various links of the supply chain will significantly accelerate the commercialization of heterojunction. According to incomplete statistics, the planned production of heterojunction batteries in China has exceeded 60GW, and both new and old battery chip manufacturers have started to layout the heterojunction field. Especially in April 2021, Aikang and Huasheng have successively led the heterojunction industry, achieving milestone significant breakthroughs.
In order to deeply explore the technological application and investment development of heterojunctions, the 6th International Forum on Heterojunction Leading Mass Production and Supply Chain Coordination, organized by the Shanghai Solar Energy Society and the China Photovoltaic Leading Innovation Forum, is planned to be held in the Yangtze River Delta region from August 26th to 28th. It will gather companies and experts from global solar cell research, investment, and other fields to discuss the future development of heterojunctions.
Development challenges faced by future heterojunctions
Looking back at the continuous development of heterojunctions, although the company's layout has initially formed, looking forward to the future, despite the promising development prospects, it still faces numerous development challenges.
