According to the global power lithium battery statistics released by the South Korean research institute SNER Research, from January to July this year, the total installed capacity of the global power lithium battery was 241GWh, up 76% year on year, and has been rising for 25 months. The market share of the top 10 companies was 91.9%, of which the market share of 6 Chinese companies increased from 42.6% to 57.3%; The market share of the three Korean companies decreased from 34.2% to 25.9%; One Japanese company has a market share of 8.7%.
From the current layout of domestic power lithium battery companies, the development of power lithium battery technology has shown a diversified trend. Blade batteries, cobalt-free batteries, Kirin batteries and Rubik's cube batteries have been announced successively, and the cobalt-free power lithium batteries have also become a global industry consensus.
It is reported that the proven global cobalt resource reserves are only 7.6 million tons. Under the tide of rapid development of electric vehicles, the scarcity of cobalt resources will seriously threaten the supply chain security of electric vehicles. Some insiders analyzed that the price of cobalt is high and the resources are small, and battery companies are vulnerable to constraints. The introduction of cobalt-free technology will help the global power lithium battery industry get rid of the long-term dependence on cobalt resources, and also help the power lithium battery significantly reduce costs.
In the view of Yang Hongxin, chairman and CEO of Honeycomb Energy, a certain technological breakthrough is necessary to achieve true cobalt-free. China urgently needs some original innovation, because the current market competition is patent competition. If the traditional polycrystalline cobalt-free patent is made, the patent is also in the United States. The cobalt-free product developed by us is called single-crystal layered structure cobalt-free, which breaks the patent of the United States.
Yang Hongxin predicted that in the future distribution of lithium products, the market share of large cobalt-free batteries will exceed 70%. The reporter learned that the large cobalt-free system mainly includes the layered cobalt-free battery developed by Honeycomb Energy and the lithium iron phosphate, lithium manganese iron phosphate and other battery systems.
It is revealed that the layered cobalt-free material battery of Honeycomb Energy is about to be loaded in batches. Yang Hongxin said that Honeycomb Energy would also launch the second generation of layered cobalt-free battery in 2023, which is expected to have a cost close to that of lithium iron phosphate and a range of 800Km.
Liu Xiao'an, director and senior process director of Honeycomb Energy, said that the homogenization, coating, rolling, die-cutting, lamination and assembly of Changzhou Jintan Factory are important links in the production process of short-knife batteries. Honeycomb Energy has made a series of exclusive innovations around these six processes.
For example, regarding the battery production using lamination technology, lamination speed has always been a pain point in the industry. Honeycomb Energy currently adopts duplex lamination, with efficiency up to 0.4s/chip; The next generation of ultra-high-speed blade-type core electrode group forming equipment has been developed, and the lamination efficiency can reach 0.125s/piece. Liu Xiao'an said.
In terms of the layout of lithium iron phosphate, Honeycomb Energy implements the electric whole-area short-knife strategy. At present, the L600 lithium iron phosphate short-knife battery that has been mass-produced can cover the market above A0-B level, and the power can meet the demand range of 50-100kwh, which can be applied to the energy storage and light power markets at the same time. Yang Hongxin said that in 2023, Honeycomb Energy will launch a new iron-lithium knife with energy density of 195Wh/Kg, with a range of 700km.
The reporter saw that the application of AI technology can be seen everywhere in Honeycomb Energy Plant. Through big data analysis, robots in the workshop can realize intelligent quality detection, automatically find the best parameters, and save about 30% of development time.
When referring to the models that cobalt-free batteries will be used on a large scale in the future, Yang Hongxin said frankly: the whole power lithium battery market is completely open, and the matching of battery size and variable we choose is suitable for most of the main sales models.
He said, for example, that the 600km version of the Euler Lightning Cat carries a layered cobalt-free battery, and the 500km version carries a lithium iron phosphate short-knife battery. At present, the Euler brand and Salon brand of Great Wall Motors will use these two kinds of batteries.
It is understood that Honeycomb Energy has planned 11 production bases in the world. Changzhou Jintan Factory is the first vehicle-level power lithium battery AI super factory built by it, which is divided into four phases, with a total planned output of 68GWh. At present, Phase I and Phase II plants have been officially put into operation. The first mass production line of short-knife batteries has been built in Phase II plants, and the full production will reach 2.5GWh. On this basis, Honeycomb Energy will build a super short-knife battery factory, and finally achieve the output of 20GWh.
Yang Hongxin revealed that Maanshan Plant, Nanjing Plant, Shangrao Plant and Yancheng Plant have been fully put into operation. Changzhou Phase III Plant has just been put into operation, and the construction of Phase IV Plant has also been officially started. In the fourth phase of the plant, Honeycomb Energy will produce three-yuan high-end power lithium batteries for BMW's electric MINI and French customers, so that the long-term production planning of Changzhou base will reach 68GWh.
