Since then, seven ministries and commissions have organized pilot work on the cascade utilization of batteries. The cascade utilization of new energy vehicle power batteries, which has been mentioned many times in the industry, has officially kicked off. However, before the industry competent department officially promoted the cascade utilization of power batteries, some enterprises had begun to explore and try in this field, among which the lion technology, which is emerging in the new energy industry, was one of them.
At the recently concluded International Energy Storage Summit and Exhibition 2018, Wang Yu, the assistant president of the clean power business unit of Mengshi Technology, disclosed to Battery China that Mengshi Technology is planning to apply the retired power batteries in electric vehicles to the energy storage field.
China Battery Network learned that the most critical issue for the cascade utilization of automotive power batteries is the detection link. Only by correctly judging the working status of retired cells or modules can the matching cascade utilization be carried out. In response, Wang Jian, the general manager of Tianjin Mengshi New Energy Renewable Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Mengshi Technology, said that Tianjin Mengshi New Energy has developed and established a comprehensive evaluation system with the cascade utilization information system as the core to detect retired batteries. The system integrates three important links: database, model and evaluation method, and material management, and can provide all-round support for the residual value, information traceability, and cascade utilization scheme of retired batteries.
For retired batteries that have passed the test, they can be applied to electric bicycles with low performance requirements, small-scale energy storage or backup power supply and other fields; For the completely scrapped cells, the harmless disassembly and recycling treatment has become a difficult problem to test the echelon utilization enterprises.
In the field of recycling and dismantling of retired batteries, the automation level of production lines of domestic enterprises is generally low. Pure manual operation may still cause secondary damage to the surrounding environment and personnel. Tianjin Mengshi actively innovated in this area, developed automatic disassembly equipment, and realized the automatic disassembly of retired battery packs to battery modules, and battery modules to cells. At the same time, through the information traceability management system, the basic information, materials, quality, equipment and other information related to production are systematically managed, and cloud storage is realized, which ensures that the retired batteries can be dismantled and recycled safely, efficiently and environmentally.
For the disassembled battery, Tianjin Mengshi uses physical separation dry and wet method to separate the copper, aluminum, manganese, cobalt and other metal elements in the scrapped battery, and then reuse them, thus reducing the energy consumption and environmental pollution in the disassembly and recovery process.
According to the data of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, it is estimated that by 2020, more than 200000 tons (24.6 GWh) of new energy vehicle power batteries will enter the retirement stage, and the power battery resource reuse market is huge. Entering this blue ocean is not only beneficial to the regeneration and utilization of relevant resources, but also beneficial for enterprises to seize the market opportunity and make waste resources produce benefits. Severe resource conservation, green environmental protection requirements and huge economic benefits will promote the emergence of more and more enterprises like Mengshi Technology in the battery industry to make more attempts and exploration in the recycling of power batteries.
