SEB battery with safety and high specific energy
Conventional lithium batteries cannot achieve high security and high performance at the same time. Wang Chaoyang's team innovatively put forward the new concept of passivating batteries and heating, overturning the traditional practice that the industry must compromise the high performance and safety of lithium batteries. By using ultra-stable materials to make batteries and combining heating, they successfully manufactured a safe, energy-denseBattery SEB battery. The research team calls it Shuo'an Battery™, It means high energy and high safety.
Longer life than TSLA battery
The battery shows ultra-high safety under extreme destructive conditions such as acupuncture, high voltage shock and high temperature storage. The SEB battery is heated to 60oC immediately before use, which greatly reduces the battery impedance and ensures high power output. When working at 60oC, the output power is 81% higher than that of conventional battery, and the number of cycles is more than 4000. If the mileage of each cycle is 400 kilometers, this is equivalent to 1.6 million kilometers. Compared with the TSLA battery, which can only reach the level of 1.6 million kilometers at room temperature, SEB battery has taken a big step forward in the service life of more than one million kilometers, which is the world record for the longest service life of ternary lithium battery at 60oC.
How can SEB battery achieve both safety and high specific energy?
It is well known that highly active electrode/electrolyte materials provide high power but poor safety, and the battery will accelerate the decay (even when not in use). However, the low activity (high stability) electrode/electrolyte material adds safety, but reduces power and performance. This is also the fundamental reason why conventional lithium batteries cannot achieve high security and high performance at the same time.
Wang Chaoyang's team took a new approach, put forward the idea of passivating the battery and heating the battery, and applied a variety of passivation elements to make the passivation battery. For example, add 1% triallyl phosphate to the electrolyte, or reduce the specific surface area of the positive and negative electrode materials. After passivation, the impedance of the battery is 5-10 times that of the conventional battery; The maximum temperature during puncture is reduced from 1000 ℃ to below 100 ℃; 4.4V high voltage is more than 30 times more stable than conventional battery; The self-discharge current is 7 times smaller than that of conventional battery, which fully proves that the battery has extremely high safety and high temperature stability.
The highly stable passivation battery can use the active material with the highest specific capacity and ultra-thick electrode to ensure the high specific energy of the cell. Before use, the battery is heated to 60oC instantaneously, which greatly reduces the battery impedance and ensures high power output. Moreover, the cooling demand is only one tenth of that of conventional batteries, without active cooling system. At the same time, SEB battery greatly simplifies the battery management system (BMS) and reduces or completely cancels the safety devices in the battery pack. A large number of subtractions have been made on the battery pack to further increase the specific energy of the battery system by 20% and reduce the cost by 20-30%.
