Many people think that as long as the unused lithium battery packs are stored away, they can still be used normally in the future. However, this is not the case. Even if lithium batteries are not in use, they will discharge at a rate of 0.2% to 0.3% per day. Moreover, after being stored for a period of time, even without being cycled, a small portion of the capacity will be permanently lost and its lifespan will also decline. The following is an introduction by the editor on how to store lithium battery packs correctly.

Both lithium battery packs and nickel batteries have strict requirements for the temperature and humidity of the storage environment. Among all the environmental factors, temperature has the greatest impact on battery charging and discharging. The electrochemical reactions inside lithium battery packs are related to the ambient temperature. If the temperature is too low, the battery will have no voltage output; if the temperature is too high, the self-discharge speed of the battery will accelerate.

Short-term Storage: Store the lithium battery packs in a dry place without corrosive gases, where the temperature and humidity are between -20°C and 35°C. If the temperature is too high or too low, it will cause the metal parts of the battery to rust or the battery to leak.

Long-term Storage:

  1. When lithium batteries are not to be used for a long time, they should be charged to 50% to 80% of their capacity and placed in a dry and cool environment. Recharge the batteries once every three months to prevent the battery from having too low a charge due to self-discharge during long storage periods, which may cause irreversible capacity loss.

  2. The self-discharge of lithium batteries is affected by the ambient temperature and humidity. High temperature and humidity will accelerate the self-discharge of the batteries. It is recommended to store the batteries in a dry environment with a temperature between 0°C and 20°C.
