Reply: Unassembled lithium batteries are not hazardous waste and should be recycled and treated as general industrial solid waste. For battery recycling points, please consult the material recycling department. The "Technical Policy for Prevention and Control of Waste Battery Pollution" encourages the recycling of lithium batteries. Relevant national departments are also implementing the extended producer responsibility system and promoting the construction of a recycling system for power batteries including lithium batteries. It is encouraged to establish a recycling system through the renewable resource recycling network and battery producers. It is recommended to hand over lithium batteries to nearby renewable resource recycling departments or send them to product producers.

Question: Are discarded lithium batteries hazardous waste?

Reply: Discarded lithium batteries are general solid waste and not hazardous waste. According to the "Technical Policy for Prevention and Control of Waste Battery Pollution", lithium-ion batteries generally do not contain toxic and harmful components and have relatively small environmental hazards. The collection, storage, and disposal of waste lithium batteries refer to and implement the relevant environmental management and pollution prevention requirements for general industrial solid waste to prevent environmental pollution.
