The operating temperature range of lithium-ion batteries
The working temperature of conventional lithium-ion batteries is -20 ℃~60 ℃, but generally, the performance of lithium-ion batteries will decrease below 0 ℃, and the discharge capacity will correspondingly decrease. Therefore, the working temperature for complete performance of lithium-ion batteries is commonly between 0 and 40 ℃. Some lithium-ion batteries with special environmental requirements have different temperatures, and some can even operate normally in environments up to hundreds of degrees Celsius.
Polymer batteries with working temperatures below -20 ℃ are generally referred to as low-temperature polymer batteries. Low temperature polymer batteries are divided into ordinary low-temperature polymer batteries with a minimum working temperature of -40 ℃ and ultra-low temperature polymer batteries with a minimum working temperature of -55 ℃.
Generally speaking, the better the low-temperature capability of low-temperature polymer batteries, the worse their high-temperature performance. These two requirements are quite contradictory. Currently, many lithium-ion battery companies have developed a wide temperature low-temperature battery that can operate from minus 40 ℃ to plus 70 ℃, which is important for products with special requirements such as automotive electronic devices.
Charging requirements: Lithium batteries require a temperature above 0 ℃, otherwise frequent charging can cause rapid battery damage and safety issues. Discharge is generally between -20~60 ℃.
Batteries are sensitive to temperature during use, and currently lithium-ion batteries have a wide operating temperature range of -20 ℃ to 60 ℃. Taking lithium iron phosphate, which has the highest popularity rate in China, as an example, charging lithium batteries at minus zero temperatures becomes difficult, and after charging, its capacity retention rate at 0 ℃ is about 60-70%, 40-55% at -10 ℃, and 20-40% at -20 ℃. When the ambient temperature exceeds 60 degrees Celsius, lithium-ion batteries have the risk of overheating, combustion, and explosion as the battery operates.
