The development of China's lithium battery industry is very rapid, and its application fields are becoming increasingly widespread. It can be said that our technological life cannot do without lithium batteries. The most commonly used battery on the market now is 18650 lithium batteries. Compared to traditional lead-acid batteries, lithium batteries have the characteristics of high open circuit voltage, low self discharge, high discharge rate, wide operating temperature range, fast charging speed, no memory effect, and no pollution.

Yesterday, a user asked the editor, will lithium-ion batteries break down if not used for a long time? The editor tells you: Yes!!!

New products that have never been used before: Under normal circumstances, the national standard charged capacity of lithium battery packs when leaving the factory is 30%. For example, a 18650 battery pack with a capacity of 14.8V/2200MAH has a factory power of approximately 600-700MAH. But the cells of a lithium battery pack will discharge themselves, which is commonly known as leakage.

There are many electronic components on the protection board of the battery pack, such as ICs, MOS, capacitors, resistors, etc., which constantly consume electricity themselves. In addition, the self discharge of the battery cells (all rechargeable batteries have the same, including lithium batteries, polymer batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries, and nickel hydrogen batteries). Although these self discharge capacities are very small, such as tens of microamperes per hour, they can be slightly ignored during normal use. However, if not used for a long time, they are not small when calculated carefully, and can reach 1-2 microamperes per hour.

In this case, taking the 14.8V/2200MAH battery as an example, about 30% of the 600-700MAH battery left the factory has completely leaked out in just over a year. If the battery is assembled on the product, combined with some electronic components on the product, it may leak out faster and take less time. When the power of the lithium battery pack is completely exposed, the separator paper of the battery cell is completely dry, and the electrolyte is completely "0", it cannot be activated and cannot be recharged. Some customers may say that it is much better to fully charge the battery when you leave the factory. Regarding this issue, it is indeed much better. However, if the factory is fully charged, it is very unsafe. Therefore, the industry standard is that everyone is charged 30%.

Used: When the battery pack is discharged and placed under protection, it is in a state where the battery is basically discharged (in fact, there is only a little residual power). Under normal use, when the lithium battery pack is discharged to the protection voltage, the protection board automatically shuts off. At this time, the battery pack is almost depleted, with only about 5% of the remaining electricity. Under normal circumstances, it will be charged when used up. Sometimes, it is too busy to remember to recharge after a few days, and it is not a problem to recharge after half a month. But if it is left unused for three to four months without charging, it will be almost scrapped.

To address these issues, everyone just needs to do the following and there will be no problem,

*If the new battery has never been used before, please do not isolate it for too long. Especially for unused new batteries, don't throw them away for four or five months. If it really cannot be discharged in time, please remember to recharge the battery!

Secondly, if the goods have already been shipped, they need to be indicated to the customer in the product manual. If a new product is not charged for a long time, the battery will fail. If used under normal circumstances, it is necessary to charge it urgently after the battery is fully charged. Otherwise, the battery will also fail.
