Firstly, when charging a new lithium-ion battery for the first time, it should be noted that the battery can be unplugged and used as soon as it is fully charged. Generally, it should be fully charged within 2-4 hours. Do not charge for more than 8 to 12 hours, as it is harmful and not beneficial; When there is a low battery prompt on the phone, it is advisable to start charging as soon as possible; Secondly, the activation of lithium-ion batteries is not something we do. Lithium ion batteries are activated before leaving the factory, so the statement of 12 hours of activation charging is incorrect. The first 12 hours of charging were for nickel cadmium and early nickel hydrogen, but lithium-ion batteries do not have a memory effect. Do not do this as prolonged charging time can affect the battery's cyclic service life.
48V lithium-ion battery
So how should 48V lithium-ion batteries be charged correctly? The charging of power lithium-ion batteries is divided into two stages:
1、 Constant current charging means that the current is constant, and the voltage of lithium-ion batteries gradually increases with the charging process. According to the above specifications, a current of 0.2C is generally used for charging (C is a method of comparing the nominal capacity of the battery with the current, 0.2C is 200mA). When the battery voltage approaches 4.2V, constant current charging is changed to constant voltage charging. This process takes about five hours.
2、 Constant voltage charging means that the voltage is constant, and the current gradually decreases as the saturation degree of the battery cell deepens. According to the specifications, when the current decreases to 0.01C or 10mA, it is considered that the charging is terminated. After adding up this process and constant current charging time, the total charging time should not exceed eight hours. Therefore, there are two criteria for determining whether a lithium-ion battery has reached full saturation during charging: first, the current is 0.01C, and second, the total duration does not exceed eight hours. In other words, if the lithium-ion battery charging process still cannot reach 0.01C after eight hours, it is considered a non-conforming product.
At this point, we have a theoretical understanding of how to charge lithium-ion batteries. When charging lithium-ion batteries, we only need to follow the instructions on a regular charger, because regular lithium-ion battery chargers are designed based on the characteristics of lithium-ion batteries, including constant current and constant voltage charging processes. We only need to judge whether the battery is fully charged based on the charger's indicator light.
