However, materials mixed with cobalt oxide to make electrodes may not react well, resulting in much lower energy capacity than theoretically possible.

Researchers simulated the materials in the atomic library to see if adding another material, also known as doping, could amplify the expected properties of cobalt oxide as an electrode by providing additional electrons while minimizing or completely eliminating negative effects. They simulated various types and levels of substances to observe how they interact with cobalt oxides.

We screened possible materials but found that many of them were too expensive or toxic, so we chose tin. Zhu said that tin can be widely obtained at low cost and is environmentally friendly.

Researchers have found that by partially replacing cobalt with some tin and binding materials, commercial fossil graphene films, a single atom thick material, support electronic materials without changing their properties. They can manufacture what they call low-cost and easy to develop electrodes.

After the simulation was completed, the Chinese research team conducted experiments to see if the simulation could be achieved.
