1.3 Current Situation of Product Demand

From the perspective of the positive electrode materials used, the battery cells are mainly divided into two series: lithium iron phosphate and ternary/lithium manganese oxide. In theory, the energy density of lithium iron phosphate power batteries is slightly lower but their safety is relatively better, while ternary/lithium manganate power lithium batteries are the opposite. In the 2015 new energy vehicle market in China, the demand growth rate of ternary/lithium manganese oxide series power lithium batteries was much higher than that of lithium iron phosphate power lithium batteries. According to data from True Lithium Research, the demand for ternary/lithium manganese oxide power lithium batteries was 4.4116 million kWh in 2015, a staggering 882.11% increase compared to the 449200 kWh in 2014; At the same time, the demand for lithium iron phosphate power batteries was 11.6289 million kWh, an increase of 225.86% from 3.5686 million kWh in 2014.

In 2015, the application of ternary/lithium manganese oxide series power lithium batteries showed a rapid growth trend in various markets, with the electric special vehicle market showing the fastest growth, but the largest usage in the electric passenger vehicle market. As shown in Table 2, the demand for ternary/lithium manganate power lithium batteries in China's electric vehicle market reached 873500 kWh in 2015, which is more than 40 times the 22000 kWh in 2014; The demand for electric passenger vehicle market has reached 1.9448 million kWh, which is 10.7 times that of 18.16 million kWh in 2014. Among them, the usage of ternary/lithium manganese oxide power lithium batteries in the pure electric passenger vehicle field has exceeded 50%. The vast majority of pure electric passenger vehicle products from important car companies such as Zhongtai and BAIC used ternary/lithium manganese oxide power lithium batteries in 2015.

In 2015, the total demand for lithium iron phosphate power batteries in China's new energy vehicle market reached 11.4212 million kWh, with a market share of 71.20%. 70.89% of the lithium iron phosphate power lithium batteries are used in the electric bus market, especially in the pure electric bus market, with a demand of up to 8.0757 million kWh (including "lithium iron phosphate+lithium titanate" power lithium batteries). Due to the ban on the suspension of ternary batteries for electric buses announced in early 2016, it did not affect the market in 2015. In 2015, the pace of ternary lithium-ion batteries for automotive power in the electric bus market was relatively fast, with an annual consumption of 1.1996 million kWh of ternary/lithium manganese oxide series lithium-ion batteries (including "ternary+lithium titanate" lithium-ion batteries), which is 6.35 times that of 188900 kWh in 2014.

Due to special policy support, the demand for power lithium batteries using lithium titanate as the negative electrode material also experienced a blowout in 2015, with an annual demand of 513700 kWh for lithium titanate batteries, which is 10 times higher than in 2014. However, due to the low energy density of the battery, lithium titanate batteries are still important in the larger electric passenger car market, and have not yet been applied in the smaller electric passenger cars and electric specialized vehicles.
