2015 Global and Chinese Market Lithium Battery Demand Statistics (Unit: 10000 kWh) (Data Source: True Lithium Research, August 20, 2016)
According to statistical data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in 2015, China's automobile companies produced a total of 379018 new energy vehicles of all types. After deducting vehicles that do not use lithium batteries (mainly lead-acid batteries, nickel hydrogen batteries, and supercapacitors) and fuel powered lithium battery vehicles, there are 355891 remaining vehicles in the real lithium research. Among them, 137621 pure electric passenger cars require 3.5317 million kWh of lithium batteries; 63048 plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles with a lithium battery demand of 902100 kWh; 85517 pure electric buses, with a lithium battery demand of 9.2617 million kWh; 23770 plug-in hybrid electric buses with a lithium battery demand of 635500 kWh; 45935 pure electric specialized vehicles, with a lithium battery demand of 1.7096 million kWh.
The new energy vehicle market has become the most important driving force for the rapid development of China's lithium battery industry, and the most important reason for the great leap forward of the new energy vehicle market is the high subsidy policy of the Chinese government. The total amount of two-level government (central+local) subsidies for some car models even covers the full cost of the vehicle. For example, for 6-8 meter pure electric buses, the total subsidy amount from the two-level government can reach up to 600000 yuan/vehicle, while the total cost of the vehicle will not exceed 500000 yuan/vehicle A00 level micro pure electric passenger vehicles with a range of over 150km can receive government subsidies of up to 70000 yuan per vehicle at two levels, and the total cost of the vehicle is also around 70000 yuan per vehicle. For these two types of new energy vehicles, the government has actually become the ultimate buyer. In the total sales of domestic new energy vehicles in 2015, the sales of these two types of vehicles accounted for a high proportion of nearly 40%.
In 2015, the price level of lithium-ion batteries in China's new energy vehicle market was around 1600 yuan/kWh for battery cell products (with a cost of about 1200 yuan/kWh), and the price of battery packs was mostly between 2400-2500 yuan/kWh (with a cost of about 1800-1900 yuan/kWh).
