Trafigura's Chief Economist Saad Rahim recently stated that demand for a key raw material in lithium batteries - nickel sulfate - is expected to increase by 50% to 3 million tons by 2030. Glencore also expressed a similar optimistic view.

Rahim said that future batteries may use more nickel and less cobalt. Nickel prices have risen by 23% this year, making it one of the best performing raw materials tracked by the Bloomberg Commodity Index.
