However, urban land resources are very scarce, especially in large cities, where there is no excess land for the construction of hydrogen refueling stations. In addition, in order to meet safety standards, the area and scale of hydrogen refueling stations must be large, making it even more difficult to find such land in cities. It is not possible to add hydrogen nearby, as fuel cell passenger car owners may find it very inconvenient and greatly reduce their purchasing motivation. Qian Wei said that building hydrogen refueling stations in the suburbs will solve the problems of insufficient understanding of hydrogen safety and land resources.

Most of the parking lots for urban buses in China are located in the suburbs. Hydrogen refueling stations are built in the suburbs, and fuel cell buses can be refueled nearby. In addition, freight vehicles running around the city pass through the outskirts, and the construction of hydrogen refueling stations in the suburbs also facilitates the refueling of fuel powered cell freight vehicles.
