In 2017, BYD embraced ternary lithium (also known as ternary polymer lithium batteries, which refer to lithium batteries with lithium nickel cobalt manganese ternary positive electrode materials) in its passenger car business.
According to reports, BYD plans to separate its power lithium battery business and operate it independently, supplying it to other new energy vehicle companies. With this move, BYD's potential customers for lithium-ion batteries in the passenger car market will be several times higher than before. According to Shen Xi, Vice General Manager of BYD's Lithium Battery Business Unit, the power lithium battery business will be split and completed by the end of 2018 or early 2019, and is expected to go public within five years.

According to reports, domestic power lithium-ion battery companies such as Watmar and Guoxuan High Tech are all striving to gain more market share.
In 2017, companies such as BYC, Funeng, and Zhihang demonstrated exceptional growth potential. Analysts believe that the increase is due to their focus on the production of ternary lithium power lithium batteries.
RWR consulting company stated that Chinese companies have engaged in over $1 billion in lithium ore transactions, mainly for automotive companies and automotive supply companies. In 2016, this figure was zero, and in 2015 it was $178 million.
