In the power composition, direct methanol fuel power cells should be used as a supplement to lithium batteries for low-power fuel power cells.

From the expected average range of over 1000km, fuel power cells have begun to be seen by OEMs as an important way to solve the range problem of lithium-ion battery electric vehicles. Taking into account the cost, safety, technical difficulty, and application performance of various types of fuel power cells, methanol fuel power cells have been first used in passenger cars under the new force of car manufacturing.

It is worth mentioning that at the commercial vehicle level, the world's first Dongfeng T7 van (light truck) based on methanol reforming hydrogen fuel cell was officially put into commercial operation in Kunshan in October. This vehicle model uses liquid methanol as raw material and can produce hydrogen, generate electricity, drive vehicles, or charge batteries on trucks. It is said that the product has better endurance and cost compared to similar types of lithium battery electric light trucks and diesel light trucks.

A senior researcher in the hydrogen and fuel cell industries believes that these actions are commendable and has put forward some good concepts regarding the already weak foundation of the new car making force, which aims to build hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. However, there are still great difficulties in achieving them.

What is the cooperation model for fuel power cell products among new forces in car manufacturing? How to ensure the research and development and quality of fuel power cell products? Can its existing production cooperation model be applied to the development of fuel cell vehicles? There are still too many doubts from the outside world.

This is in line with the opinion of Professor Hu Mingruo from the Fuel Power Cell Research Institute of the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University: In China, fuel power cell technology and FCEV products need to be led and participated by manufacturing companies with a deep foundation, relying on the existing industry and technical foundation of relevant companies to support and maintain. At present, the accumulation of new forces in car manufacturing may not be sufficient.
