In a statement, co lead author and postdoctoral researcher in Biochemical Engineering from Iowa, Metin Uz, stated that this technology may lead to a better way to differentiate stem cells. However, improving this method may affect the repair of damaged nerves in the body.

Based on the research results of the team, it can be concluded that flexible graphene electrodes can adapt to the damaged site and provide direct electrical stimulation for nerve cell regeneration, paving the way for nerve regeneration in vivo.

A research team from South Korea has developed more efficient neural electrodes that can minimize tissue damage and transmit clear brain signals. Usually, the smaller the electrode, the more difficult it is to detect the signal. However, a team from the Gyeongbei Institute of Technology in Daegu, South Korea has developed a small, flexible, and clear brain signal detector.

The detector consists of electrodes that record brain signals. These combined materials have added effective surface area, conductivity, and electrode strength to the probe (detector), while still maintaining softness and compatibility with soft tissue.

This means that the electrode can contract, but it will not reduce signal detection. The interconnection line is made of a mixture of graphene and gold. Graphene is soft, and gold is an excellent conductor. Researchers tested the probe and found that it can clearly read rat brain signals, much better than standard flat gold electrodes. This probe needs to undergo further clinical testing before widespread commercialization.
