SKI is a subsidiary of SKEnergy, the largest refiner in South Korea, and is a latecomer to the market dominated by local competitors LG Chemical and Samsung SDI.

SKI is considering splitting off its electric vehicle lithium battery business from a financial perspective, but has not yet provided a timeline. It is understood that the current energy density of SKI's mass-produced soft pack cells can reach 260Wh/kg, and the energy density target for 2023 is 319Wh/kg.

In 2020, SKI's global installed capacity of lithium-ion batteries was 7GWh, ranking sixth. The top five were Ningde Times 34GWh, LG Chemical (LG New Energy), Panasonic 25GWh, BYD 10GWh, and Samsung SDI8GWh.

In terms of production, SKI currently has a production capacity of 9.8GWh/year at the Georgia factory in the United States, 7.5GWh/year at Jintan in Changzhou, Jiangsu, China, 4.7GWh/year at the Ruishan Battery Factory in South Chungcheong, South Korea, and 7.5GWh/year at the Comarom First Factory in Hungary. A total of 29.5GWh/year. In addition, SKI also collaborated with Yiwei Lithium Energy to jointly build a production capacity of 20GWh-25GWh power lithium batteries. SKI's US factory plans to produce 55GWh/year, and SKI's overall plan is to increase production to 55GWh/year by 2022 and achieve 100GWh/year by 2025.

In terms of customers, SKI's important suppliers not only include Volkswagen, but also provide power lithium batteries for many well-known domestic and foreign car companies such as Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes Benz, Daimler, and BAIC.

In terms of supply chain, SKI actively seeks global cooperation. In the Chinese market, Chinese battery material companies such as Tianqi Lithium, Dangsheng Technology, Putai Lai, Zhongke Electric, and New Zebang have successively entered the SKI supply chain.

In addition to batteries, SKI plans to produce approximately 1 billion square meters of separators in South Korea, China, and Poland.
