Introduction: Chinese scientists have created a fully printable perovskite solar cell with an efficiency of 11.78% by using electrodes made from waste carbon powder in printer cartridges. The battery achieved an open circuit voltage of 0.88V, a short-circuit current density of 24.64mAcm, and a filling factor of 54.56%.

A group of scientists from East China University of Science and Technology and Hebei University of Science and Technology in China have developed a technology that can produce printable mesoscopic perovskite solar cells, whose electrodes are made of carbon recovered from the waste toner of printer cartridges.

At present, this work is just starting and is still in the preparation stage for small-scale devices in the laboratory.

Mesoscopic photovoltaic devices typically have an absorption layer and can be manufactured through solution based methods and non vacuum treatment, which makes their production costs relatively lower than those of traditional solar cells. The use of organic inorganic layered perovskite has recently enabled scientists around the world to increase efficiency to over 10%.
